What to have ready when you ring
None of this is essential — but the more of it you have, the more likely it is you get a price on the first call rather than after a visit.
- Where you are — the village or the first part of the postcode is plenty.
- What the frame is — UPVC, timber or aluminium, and roughly how old if you know.
- What the window is doing — misted, will not lock, catching, draughty, cracked.
- Upstairs or down — access changes how a job is priced.
- How many windows — several at once is cheaper per window than one at a time.
- Whether the locking strip moves — open the window, turn the handle, watch the sash edge.
Photos that actually help
- The whole window from a few feet back, so the style and size are clear.
- A close-up of the handle including the screws and the base plate.
- The open sash edge showing the locking strip and its cams.
- The hinge along the top or side, with the window open.
- The misting itself taken with the light behind you, not in front.
- Any cracks in the frame, especially at the corners.

How the enquiry side of things works.
What should I tell you when I ring about a window?
Four things get you a price fastest: roughly where you are, whether the window is UPVC, timber or aluminium, what the window is actually doing, and whether it is upstairs or down.
If the handle is the problem, it also helps to know whether the metal strip along the edge of the sash moves when the handle is turned — that one detail separates a handle job from a mechanism job.
Why is there no contact form on this website?
Because a window fault is far quicker to sort out in a short conversation than through a form and a wait.
A phone call usually gets you an answer straight away, and an email with a photo attached is the next best thing, because we can often price the job from the picture without a visit.
Can I send a photo of the broken part?
Yes, and it is genuinely useful. A clear photo of a handle, a hinge, the edge of an open sash or a misted pane often identifies the part straight away.
If you can, include one close-up and one shot of the whole window so the size and style are visible too.
Do you take on emergency and boarding-up work?
Ring and describe the situation. Where a pane has gone and a property is open to the weather, making the opening safe comes before anything else.
The replacement glass is then measured and ordered separately once the opening is secure.
Ring and describe the window
Two minutes on the phone is usually all it takes to work out whether you are looking at a part, a pane or a new window.
