Window Fitter in Buckingham

If you are looking for a window fitter near you in Buckingham, this is the part of the job where repair is no longer the answer — new UPVC windows measured, fitted, sealed and made good, from one opening to a whole house.

Repair first, replace when it is right

We will tell you when a window is genuinely past it

Most of our work is repairs, and that shapes how we quote for replacements. If the frame is sound and only a handle, a hinge or a sealed unit has failed, you will be told that — even though fitting a new window would be the bigger job for us.

But some windows really are finished. Frames that have gone brittle and cracked at the corner welds cannot be squared up. Profiles from the early days of UPVC often have no spare parts still in production. Single glazing will never insulate whatever you do to it. And when four separate things have failed on the same window, the sums stop favouring a repair.

When that is the case, this is what fitting the replacement actually involves.

How a window replacement is done properly

Most of the difference between a good installation and a bad one is in the preparation and the finishing, not the window itself.

  1. Survey & measure

Every opening measured individually — houses settle and no two are identical, even on the same elevation. Glass specification and opening arrangement agreed at this stage.

  2. Frames manufactured

The windows are made to those measurements, with the openers, handles, colour and glass you chose. Nothing is cut down on site to make it fit.

  3. Old window out

The old frame is cut and worked out rather than levered, keeping the reveal and the surrounding plaster and render as intact as possible.

  4. New window in & sealed

New frame packed, levelled, mechanically fixed, then sealed inside and out. The sashes are tested, the trims fitted and the old frames taken away.

The bit people forget to ask about: what happens around the outside of the frame. A window that is foamed into a gap and left will let water track in behind the seal within a couple of winters. The joint between frame and reveal wants packing, fixing and sealing properly — that is what keeps the weather out, not the window itself.

What we fit

New UPVC windows for Buckingham homes

The style follows the property. A Georgian frontage on or near Market Hill wants a different window from a nineteen-eighties estate house on the edge of town.

Casement windows

The standard British window — side or top hung openers within a fixed frame, in whatever combination of openers and fixed lights the opening needs.

  • Side opening and top opening lights
  • Fixed lights where no opener is needed
  • Egress hinges for escape windows
  • White, woodgrain and coloured foils

Tilt & turn

Two positions from one handle — tilted in at the top for secure ventilation, or swung fully inwards for cleaning from inside.

  • Useful upstairs and above extensions
  • Cleaned from inside the room
  • Ventilation without a wide-open sash
  • Multi-point locking as standard

Bays & larger openings

Bay and bow windows need corner posts and load-bearing consideration, so they are surveyed more carefully than a straight opening.

  • Angled and square bays
  • Structural support checked before removal
  • Cills and corner posts matched
  • Large fixed panes handled two-handed

Options worth deciding early

These change the price and the manufacturing spec, so they are agreed before anything is ordered rather than on fitting day.

  • Opener positions
  • Handle colour & style
  • Georgian or astragal bars
  • Obscure glass to bathrooms
  • Toughened safety glass
  • Low-E energy glass
  • Acoustic glass
  • Trickle vents
  • Restrictors
  • Cill depth & end caps
  • White or woodgrain finish

Fair questions to ask any window fitter

Including us. If a quote does not cover these, it is worth asking why before you sign anything.

  • Is the price per window or for the job?You want to know exactly which openings are included, and what happens to the price if you add or drop one.
  • Who removes and disposes of the old frames?Removal, disposal and clearing the site should be in the price, not an extra discovered at the end.
  • What making good is included?Taking a frame out disturbs the opening. Ask what gets filled, sealed or trimmed, and what is left for a decorator.
  • What glass is specified where?Bathrooms want obscure glass; low-level panes and anything beside a door normally need toughened or laminated safety glass by regulation.
  • How is Building Regulations compliance handled?Replacement windows are notifiable work. Ask whether it goes through a competent person scheme or Building Control, and who does the notifying.
  • What happens if something is wrong after fitting?Get it clear who you ring, and what is covered by the window manufacturer's guarantee as opposed to the installation itself.
FAQs

Window fitting questions

What people in Buckingham ask before booking a replacement.

Can I have just one window replaced, or does it have to be the whole house?

One window is perfectly normal work. Plenty of jobs are a single opening that has finally failed while the rest of the house is fine.

Doing several at once does bring the cost per window down, because the setting up, the access and the making good are shared across the job — but there is no minimum and no pressure to replace windows that do not need it.

Do replacement windows need Building Regulations approval?

Replacement windows in England are covered by the Building Regulations, which set requirements for thermal performance, safety glass in critical locations, ventilation and means of escape from certain rooms. Compliance is normally handled either through a registered competent person scheme or by notifying Building Control.

Tell us at the quoting stage what the property is and what the room is used for, so the right specification and route are agreed before anything is ordered.

How long does it take to fit a window?

A straightforward ground floor casement is usually out and replaced within a few hours, and several windows in one property are commonly done over a day or two. Bays, large openings and anything needing scaffold or extra access take longer.

The manufacturing time for made-to-measure frames is separate and comes before the fitting date.

What happens to my old windows?

They go with us. The old frames, glass, beading and offcuts are removed from site and disposed of, and the working area is cleared up.

You should not be left with a pile of broken glass and PVC in the garden after a window fitter has been.

Will fitting new windows damage my plaster and render?

Taking a frame out inevitably disturbs the edge of the opening, which is why the reveal is cut around rather than levered out, and why the new frame is sized to sit within the existing opening.

Any small gaps left are filled and sealed, and trims are used where the original finish cannot be matched exactly. We will tell you before starting where making good is likely to be needed.
